Description:  There’s more to this flashy dress watch than meets the eye. Art Basel 1957, Piaget unveiled a world’s first, a manual movement measuring 2mm in thickness: the Caliber 9p. A horological marvel and technical feat deemed an impossibility. Not only did Piaget produce the world’s then thinnest movement, and not only were they able to make it commercially available, they did it twice. In 1960, Piaget released the 12P – an automatic movement standing at a height of 2.8mm. With the 12P, Piaget added a date function and crafted the rotor out of 24k solid gold. And, if not for those details, could have been made smaller. Regarding the movement itself, Piaget spared no expense – the base plate is sheared with circular graining, and the bridges patterned with côtes de Genève, its edges chamfered by hand. The ultra-thin 13431A6 ‘TV’ comes with a hammer-face dial and integrated bracelet in a bark-style finish, both crafted from precious metal. While, on the surface, this Piaget might be seen as outlandish, the build-quality and beauty of its movement affirms, what’s inside is all that truly matters.
