1978 Rolex 18028 Yellow Gold Green Stella Dial Day-Date

Description: In the 1970s, Rolex released fourteen total colors of the lacquered enamel ‘Stella’ dials: azure, cobalt, chocolate, turquoise, oxblood, pink, crimson, lilac, ochre, saffron (the rarest and most expensive), lemon, coral, forest, and emerald-green. Many of these watches went unbought and Rolex quickly discontinued the style. So the story goes, 1990’s Italian sartorial cognoscenti, wishing to increase their sprezzatura (everyday and effortless grace), began seeking these dials and, sensing their true value, bought them ‘a frotte’, generating fervor for what was once unloved.
Today, due to poor sales of the 70s and what few remain, kept in collections, Stellas are objects of rarity. Coveted and match enough for Omani Sultanate, Italian sartorialites, and Important Europeans alike, Stella Day-Dates are the perfect colorful compliment to any collezione di raritá.
This Spanish Emerald-Green ‘Stella’ Day-Date is encased in an unpolished yellow gold case in wonderful condition, with green spiderwebbing across the dial face and gilt stamping, whose bracelet exhibits no stretch.
The spidering across the dial is uniform and also not uncommon across these Stella dials.
