1970 Vacheron Constantin 222 46003 Yellow Gold W/Box & Paper
Description: The Vacheron Ref 46003 is the mid-size 222 coming in at 34mm case diameter compared to the 37mm Jumbo 222. However, most collectors would agree that the 37mm wears slightly oversized and the 34mm 46003 wears more like a 37mm when comparing them on the wrist. The 46003 was also made in much smaller numbers comparatively to the 44018. Production numbers are believed to be under 250 across all metals, making this one of the most organically rare references for Vacheron. This design of the tonneau case has unmistakeable traits from the Genta designed Royal Oak, Nautilus, and IWC Ingenieur SL, however unlike those this was designed not by Genta but rather another famous designer at the time, Jorge Hysek. So ultimately who is this watch for? We believe that the collector that is over the popularity of the Nautilus and Royal Oak will gravitate towards the 222. It is the road less traveled and without a fact much more rare than its counterparts. We also think the size is rather unique in that it wears bigger than a Patek 3800 and AP 14790. Of the mid-size watches, it wears much bigger than the size by numbers might suggest. This example comes with the original box and guarantee.
