Description: The 6605 is what the Datejust looked like before the 1601 took over. Faceted dagger indexes, tapered alpha hands, and a fluted bezel cut narrower and finer than the ones that followed. What makes these worth chasing is the date wheel. Rolex printed the even numbers in red and the odd numbers in black on these early discs, dropped it by the early 60’s, and did not bring it back until the 2000’s. The dial is signed SWISS only which designates radium as the lume, and the silver has warmed to a soft champagne. The gold case back carries the hairlines of 68 years which is what we expect to see on a solid gold watch of this age. A black leather strap with a gold plated Rolex buckle straps this one to the wrist.
